Pontia protodice

Common name: Checkered White

Appearance:

  • Females are white with brown checkering
  • Males are the same except with black on outer edge of upper wing
  • 1-2.5 inch wingspan

Found: Dry weedy areas, fields, pastures, sandy areas

Major foodplant: Crucifers, especially peppergrass

Adults are active in: July through mid-August, mid-September through October
